Spay/Neuter

Sunday Clinics for Feral Cats

We offer Sunday spay/neuter clinics, the purpose of which is to sterilize and vaccinate as many feral cats as possible. Clinics are always held on a Sunday and are free, though donations are welcome. Slots must be reserved in advance.

Clinic treatments include: A brief examination, spay/neuter, rabies and distemper vaccines, flea and ear mite treatments, and the left ear is tipped (3/8" is taken off the top of the ear) for identification that the cat has been sterilized and vaccinated. No other diagnostic services or treatments are given. Tests for FIV and Feline Leukemia are not done.

For more information, or to reserve slots for an upcoming clinic, contact Beth Smith at 978-462-0760 or spayneuter@mrfrs.org.

Low-Cost Programs for Pet Cats

Services are available for those who need financial assistance with spay/neuter and vaccinations for their cats. Certain restrictions/requirements apply. Please call MRFRS at 978-462-0760 or email info@mrfrs.org for more information. Click here to download an application. Once your application is received and approved, we will contact you to schedule an initial visit here at MRFRS. During that visit, your cat will receive a health screening, initial distemper vaccination, and deworming, flea, and ear mite treatments, as needed. We will then schedule a spay/neuter and rabies vaccination appointment for your cat at a local vet, at your convenience. You will be responsible for transporting the cat to/from the vet. We will then follow up with you to schedule an appointment for a second distemper shot here at MRFRS, 3 weeks after the initial shot. All fees will be paid directly to MRFRS, and will be determined based on how much the cat's owner can afford.

In addition, microchipping for cats is available to anyone for $30, including registration. Call us to schedule an appointment here at MRFRS for this quick procedure. You'll be in and out in no time, we'll register the chip for you, and you'll rest easier knowing your cat can be identified if it should ever get lost and end up at a shelter or veterinarian.
